Frequently asked questions
What is PTE Academic?
PTE Academic is a computer-based English test from Pearson, used by universities, employers and governments to check English ability. It takes about two hours, has three parts (Speaking and Writing, Reading, Listening) and reports an overall score from 10 to 90 with a score for each skill.
Is MocksPTE really free?
Yes. Every practice question, mock test, explanation and result is free, and there is no login, signup, email form or credit card anywhere on the site.
Is MocksPTE connected to Pearson?
No. MocksPTE is an independent practice website. The questions are original practice questions written to follow the PTE Academic format, and the scores you see here are practice estimates, not official PTE scores.
What changed in PTE Academic in August 2025?
For tests taken from 7 August 2025, Pearson added two speaking tasks, Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation, and some responses are now part-scored by trained human raters as well as by automated scoring. Both new tasks are available to practice here.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, every page works on mobile. For speaking practice, use a browser that allows microphone access. Chrome or Edge on a computer gives the most complete feedback, including transcripts, and a keyboard is better for timed writing.
How is my speaking checked without a teacher?
Your answer is recorded in your browser so you can play it back. In Chrome, Edge and Safari, the browser's speech recognition also creates a transcript, which we compare with the original text or with key points from the prompt. It does not score pronunciation or fluency.
